We're going to be taking a look at our worship here on the blog for the next two weeks. Worship is more than music, but this week we'll be taking a look at songs we do at Forefront, why we do them, and what spiritual truth is it saying about God and our journey.

Enjoy webisode numero uno and there will be more to come...

I'll go ahead and kick this one off, for me, one of my favorite worship songs is "I Am a Temple" by John Mark McMillan. Here's why, the song points to Christ. There's some good theology in there, which is this: We are not worthy, He is! He is our righteousness, He makes us clean. It's not about us, Jesus did for us what we cannot do for ourselves.

    Here are the lyrics:

    Deep inside me
    There's this burning
That just won't let me go
    You are my fire
    You are my righteousness
You are my rock in roll

I wish I could fit you
    Down inside my chest God
I wish I could swallow you whole
    I'd wrap you up
In a blanket of my skin
And you could call my body home

    I am a temple
    My body is a temple
    I am a temple

So what if I'm not worthy
    You make me clean

I can't get over how quickly you recover
The pieces of my heart as they shatter
Cause in your hands I am
More than just a brand new man
And all my falling down now
    Its just don't matter

    I am a temple
    My body is a temple
    I am a temple

So what if I'm not worthy
    You make me clean

Mark, I absolutely dig that song talked about by JMM. I really enjoy his writing/heart.

A song that really brings me back to the moment God took over life is "Jesus Paid It All" by Elvina Hall (1822-1899), but it has been re-worked by Kristian Stanfill. (video here http://tinyurl.com/kpnvpf)

It's just something about longing for that day to get to see God and be with Him, and know it's only because of His love that we get to take part in that. Man this song cripples me every time I hear it.

    Lyrics:

    I hear the Savior say, 'Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all.

    Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.

Lord, now indeed I find Thy power and Thine alone,
Can change the leper's spots And melt the heart of stone.

    Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.

And when before the throne I stand in Him complete,
"Jesus died my soul to save" my lips shall still repeat

    Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.

O Praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

O Praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

O Praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

O Praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead

So, I have been thinking, and right now at this very moment (I always have thousands of favorites) mine is Lead me to the Cross. Hillsong sings it, my favorite version is by Chris and Conrad. It reminds me what I need to do everyday that I wake. It is about making Him your focus in life.

    The lyrics:

    Saviour I come
    Quiet My soul, Remember
    Redemptions hill,
Where your blood was spilled, for my Ransom

    PreChorus
    Everything I once hold dear
I count it all as lost

    Chorus
Lead me to the Cross, where you love poured out
Bring me to my knees, Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself, I belong to you
    Lord Lead me,
    Lead me to the Cross

    You were as I
    Tempted and Tried, HUMAN
    Word became flesh
Bore my sin and death, Now you're risen

    Chorus

    To your heart
    To your heart
    Lead me to your heart
    Lead me to your heart

    Chorus
